12!

Hey!

Last Saturday night we were distracted by a homestyle rib-fest celebrating a nephew’s 25th birthday but it was also a special day for my blog. It turned 12 years old.

My blog is OLD. My blog used to be called an “online journal” – that’s how old it is. My blog was once cut up into the tastiest of tasty html chunks and uploaded as a static page, every day. Seriouslyย geriatric!

I really don’t have many thoughts about this particular milestone other than “OLD”, but you know? I like my blog. I like it even when it isn’t doing much. I like being a blogger even though I’m not creating an empire or a magazine or a platform. I like it when you come by to visit, so thanks for persisting despite the quiet. You’re all my favourites.

While we’re walking down memory lane, yours was one of the very first blogs I ever read and what helped inspire me to start my own back in 2004. In bloggy terms, mine’s old too. Happy blogiversary.

I remember almost all of the years…It has been nice to see little ones grow along side your creativity and so nice to be creative together. Here’s to twelve more years of creations! I can not even imagine what it will all be like online at that time. xoxo ~Lili

Awww! Happy blogiversary! Not sure if this was the first blog I ever read, but it would have been right up there.I remember you mentioning to me on the Gossip Train way back when as a little bit of a secret that you hadn’t told work-people about yet, then me going back and voraciously reading all the archives. Then, later, you mentioning that you had started telling work people about it, and me asking if you remembered that there was some post or other where you talked about your boobs (cannot for the life of me remember why) and you frantically going back to delete that post before anyone read it. Good times!

Here’s to many more years of happy (if sporadic) blogging!

P.S. Cute pic, you look great!

  4. Happy 12th Blogiversary!!Like the other comments I think you were my first too.

What a fun point in time to be able to say that your blog is 12! I remember first reading Loobylu and you posted a picture of baby Amelia and her puffy, punk rocker hair. Do I have that right? Always fun to see what you are making, reading, writing, doing…thanks for sharing your ideas, dreams, and projects with us.

I love this post.Loobylu is a rather sophisticated pre-teen methinks. She’s pretty happy in her skin & she doesn’t need to prove anything to anybody. She just says & does what she wants when she wants & how she wants. I like her…a lot!

Still my very favourite online space.

    Love you! x

  7. Happy 12th Birthday! Loobylu was the first craft blog I read. I made my first original softie for Month of Softies – the monster themed month (http://loobylu.com/softies/softies_0405.htm). You inspired me to start my own blog in 2005. I kept making softies and now am writing a book about soft toy design. You will always have a special place in my heart.

  8. You’re my favorite too!Seriously, you were my gateway drug to blogging. I love your artwork and your family stories and the warm friendly tone that your writing always has. (And I’m kind of glad that you’ve tapered off because I have too and it makes me feel less guilty and hopeful that maybe people will still like me too anyway.)

  9. Meg says:

Mazel Tov!! 12 amazing years. If you have a party, maybe my band could come play?? Perhaps in spirit. Sending love. xx

  11. sharyn says:

Oh funny – my blog is the same age as yours! Though my archives only go back to 2002 at massdistraction.org. Entries were manually edited at waste.org/~unbroken before that, where I edited the html daily in pico. As for the “slightly awkward pre-teen” – I’ve got one of those in human form. He recently sprouted armpit hair.Anyhow, Happy Anniversary!

Happy Blog Birthday Claire! Yours was one of the very first blogs that I loved. In fact, your and Laura Holder’s blogs were the reason I wanted to start mine. Too Askew is turning 10 in a matter of days. What a crazy time. Best wishes.

  33. Emmaline says:

Wow – what a perfect photo too, all hope and tenderness! I had a moment of dread at the start of that post that you were going to call it a day, and I was getting sad in advance, but I am so glad that you’re still finding something in this caper. Yours was the first blog I heard of or read – it was during my honours year at uni when I was searching for vintage fabrics and I was surprised and entranced when a diary, of all things, came up in the search results. A hundred thanks for a hundred moments of joy (so it seems) and Happy Anniversary Loobylu!

I’m so glad you’re still blogging – ’tis a sad sad thing when a blog you follow shuts down. And I’m also glad you’re not building an empire. I like Loobylu as it is.
