Last Saturday night we were distracted by a homestyle rib-fest celebrating a nephew’s 25th birthday but it was also a special day for my blog. It turned 12 years old.
My blog is OLD. My blog used to be called an “online journal” – that’s how old it is. My blog was once cut up into the tastiest of tasty html chunks and uploaded as a static page, every day. Seriously geriatric!
I really don’t have many thoughts about this particular milestone other than “OLD”, but you know? I like my blog. I like it even when it isn’t doing much. I like being a blogger even though I’m not creating an empire or a magazine or a platform. I like it when you come by to visit, so thanks for persisting despite the quiet. You’re all my favourites.
While we’re walking down memory lane, yours was one of the very first blogs I ever read and what helped inspire me to start my own back in 2004. In bloggy terms, mine’s old too. Happy blogiversary.
I remember almost all of the years…It has been nice to see little ones grow along side your creativity and so nice to be creative together. Here’s to twelve more years of creations! I can not even imagine what it will all be like online at that time. xoxo ~Lili
Awww! Happy blogiversary! Not sure if this was the first blog I ever read, but it would have been right up there.I remember you mentioning to me on the Gossip Train way back when as a little bit of a secret that you hadn’t told work-people about yet, then me going back and voraciously reading all the archives. Then, later, you mentioning that you had started telling work people about it, and me asking if you remembered that there was some post or other where you talked about your boobs (cannot for the life of me remember why) and you frantically going back to delete that post before anyone read it. Good times!
Here’s to many more years of happy (if sporadic) blogging!
P.S. Cute pic, you look great!
Happy 12th Blogiversary!!Like the other comments I think you were my first too.
What a fun point in time to be able to say that your blog is 12! I remember first reading Loobylu and you posted a picture of baby Amelia and her puffy, punk rocker hair. Do I have that right? Always fun to see what you are making, reading, writing, doing…thanks for sharing your ideas, dreams, and projects with us.
I love this post.Loobylu is a rather sophisticated pre-teen methinks. She’s pretty happy in her skin & she doesn’t need to prove anything to anybody. She just says & does what she wants when she wants & how she wants. I like her…a lot!
Still my very favourite online space.
Love you! x
Happy 12th Birthday! Loobylu was the first craft blog I read. I made my first original softie for Month of Softies – the monster themed month (http://loobylu.com/softies/softies_0405.htm). You inspired me to start my own blog in 2005. I kept making softies and now am writing a book about soft toy design. You will always have a special place in my heart.
You’re my favorite too!Seriously, you were my gateway drug to blogging. I love your artwork and your family stories and the warm friendly tone that your writing always has. (And I’m kind of glad that you’ve tapered off because I have too and it makes me feel less guilty and hopeful that maybe people will still like me too anyway.)
Mazel Tov!! 12 amazing years. If you have a party, maybe my band could come play?? Perhaps in spirit. Sending love. xx
and we like you to claire. you old duck. twelve, sheesh – time to start wearing a little rouge and getting all tweenie on our asses.
Oh funny – my blog is the same age as yours! Though my archives only go back to 2002 at massdistraction.org. Entries were manually edited at waste.org/~unbroken before that, where I edited the html daily in pico. As for the “slightly awkward pre-teen” – I’ve got one of those in human form. He recently sprouted armpit hair.Anyhow, Happy Anniversary!
Happy anniversary to my inspiration blog! I’m so glad you’re still here! 🙂
Yours is the very first blog I ever read. That’s old.
And I still love it!
Happy Anniversary! Thank you for the years of inspiration!
I like your blog, too. Happy Blogiversary.
Quiet or noisy, I’ve loved your blog for years. Thanks for sharing your interests, life, and art!
Happy birthday! I think I’ve been reading for at least 10 years. Which makes me feel old, too.
Time for a bar mitzvah! heheHappy coming of age to loobylu blog!
you’ve almost a teenager!
12!!!!!That’s impressive staying power!
Congrats! I like your blog too.
Congratulationis – that is a big deal. Twelve in dog years is…I’m not exactly sure but in Blog Years…even longer. I love visiting Loobylu.
Hip hip ! You were the first blog i started reading almost nine years ago. So amazing. You should make your classic cat doll to celebrate turning 12 – i’d graciously take it off your hands *cheez*
Good stuff Claire! But how is it that you still look like you’re 28? ; )
Happy blogversary! To be 12 in blogland is to be way into adulthood! 🙂
Paul and Suze – s’marvellous what a vintage filter on your iphone camera can do.
Impressive Claire. Keep on keeping on, you are an inspiration to us young folk (6 and counting). xxx
Awesome! I’ve been reading your blog for 10 years. 🙂 This is the first time I’ve commented, though. Congratulations!!
10 years and this is your first comment? Hello! Thank you for the comment : ) xx
Happy Birthday Loobylu blog!
Yours was the 1st blog I ever read after reading an article you were featured in in The Age.You sidebar led me to many other great bloggers and some real life friendships and weekends away – so thanks for that!
Hey congratulations Claire! Have been a lurker for maybe 7 years (sounds a bit creepy!). Love your writing, your craft, your art. Katrina
Happy Blog Birthday Claire! Yours was one of the very first blogs that I loved. In fact, your and Laura Holder’s blogs were the reason I wanted to start mine. Too Askew is turning 10 in a matter of days. What a crazy time. Best wishes.
Wow – what a perfect photo too, all hope and tenderness! I had a moment of dread at the start of that post that you were going to call it a day, and I was getting sad in advance, but I am so glad that you’re still finding something in this caper. Yours was the first blog I heard of or read – it was during my honours year at uni when I was searching for vintage fabrics and I was surprised and entranced when a diary, of all things, came up in the search results. A hundred thanks for a hundred moments of joy (so it seems) and Happy Anniversary Loobylu!
Happy 12 years Claire! The internet would be a dull place without you!
You are my super dooper favourite, Claire. I like that you aren’t building an empire.x
Happy Birthday Loobylu! Wow, 12 years! I think I’ve been reading for ten of those and will keep coming back as long as you keep writing. 🙂
Happy Blog Birthday! 12 is big girl, big time!
Love it! Happy Happy! I’ve been reading also for years and years. Was sad when you went on hiatus, happy when you returned. Enjoyed tales from half a world away and from just up the coast. Keep on keepin on Loobylu!
How awesome! I can’t imagine if I’ll manage 12 years, that seems a life time! And I agree you look too young! 😀
Been following you for 12 years!!! That makes me OLD! Congratulations on your milestone, Claire! I’m glad you’re keeping it up and keeping me inspired. xo
Hi Claire!I remember having you as my “parent” blog on blogtree… my own blog only turned 9 this October. My son Jan is a year younger than Amelia, and I remember reading through all your archives. Happy anniversary, and I wish to read through many more!
Happy 12 years. I remember we went to a fabric store together for “work” and afterwards you did an illustration of us with rolls of fabric and put it on your blog. I was chuffed! Hahaha, if you site is geriatric so am I! Also, nice to see a photo of you on the blog, digging the stripes. x
Hi Clare!Congratulations on your bloggiversary…12 is such a milestone!
…and I think that I’ve been following for at least 10 of those…eek. I’m getting on a bit too.
I’m so glad you’re still blogging – ’tis a sad sad thing when a blog you follow shuts down. And I’m also glad you’re not building an empire. I like Loobylu as it is.
Happy Anniversary on the Super Information Highway (snort) Remember when they called it that? Of course you do.
hooray! that’s real staying power. I found your blog in about 2004 and it was the first one I got really hooked on and it made me start to think about starting my own one day, which I did, well… a few years later. I still look fwd to your posts however frequent or infrequent. Congrats on your milestone!H.
Since I’ve been reading I’ve lived in 4 houses, had 3 jobs, 2 kids, a bazquillion obsessions, 1 marriage and how the web has evolved. You were the beginning of my love with the medium. Congratulations and thanks. M
I like your blog too!Happy Anniversary!
Happy Birthday Blog! I still enjoy reading you!

And, lovely Claire, in that photo of yourself you look so young and fresh – not more than 2 x 12 yourself!
Yay. I love Loobylu! Happy Blog Day!
the normal 12 year old is spot faced, anxious and a little surly. loobylu is happily none of these things. thanks for creating such a sweet little space on the internet.
I’ve been a mostly silent reader on your blog since you were telling the tale of getting married to P, or shortly before that. Love it still, after all these years.
HiI just found your blog – after 12 years. I’ve had a nice read. And I love Annie Hall, one of my favourite moviesYour words are so lovely, has re-inspired me to keep blogging. I’m not much of a twitterer so I’ll follow the conventional wayByeMarcie
Happy 12 blog years! I started reading in….2002 i think, when i was living overseas. It is still one of my favourite places to pop in to.
I found an old links page of mine from 2001 where I linked to you 🙂 aww.http://tehini.pitas.com/
Happy birthday! Remember when those online journals had “guest books” instead of comments sections? We’ve come a long way, baby 🙂
