Rock buns and colouring in

rockbuncolouring
I can tell Winter is here because I am spending time looking at beach-holiday destinations and imagining how nice it would be to lie on the warm sand. Hmm. Byron Bay looks nice in wide-angled photos. I seemed to remember doing similar browsing in the middle of Summer, imagining chilly  destinations including the Ice Hotel in Sweden.

Because it was a more than a little Wintery here today, the girls and I spent large amounts of time drawing pictures for each other to colour. And when I wasn’t answering to the call of “Mum, draw me! Draw me!”,  I made rock buns – have you ever made Jane’s rock buns? They are delicious and lemony and I highly recommend them. Leave them to cool a little when they come out of the oven, but make sure to eat them while they are still a bit warm. Lily did not eat hers (which is unsurprising, as she is a non-eater in general, unless it’s bread or chocolate), but the rest of us devoured two each.

Have you ever been to Byron Bay? I always think of the view of the lighthouse, which is the BEST lighthouse, sitting on the top of a really steep cliff, with a winding path leading to and from it. We saw the sunrise there earlier this year, and as the sun broke through clouds a pod of dolphins swam through the sun’s reflection – all that was missing was a rainbow!

The rock bun recipe is gorgeous; we make a variation replacing the raisins with chocolate chips and glace cherries – might tempt Lily?

We’re having the same sort of day over here tooday. The big girl is doing a puzzle, the middle is drawing, the baby is washing everything with a wet washer, Bren is making pasta and I am contemplating a September trip up North.

It seems so odd to me when I read about someone living in the southern hemisphere getting ready for winter.Although, right now, we should have blistering hot weather and it’s cooler now than it was all spring. I’m not complaining at all, loving and holding on to every moment of it because the heat will come. It always does.

Yeah I can relate. Really all I have been doing is dreaming of an island getaway for the last month. Every time I walk past a travel agent it gets worse… But those rock buns look good.Mia

Oh my, now I want to bake something! Ta for the link for the recipe! Winter does indeed seem to be upon us. Even up here on Midnorth coast of NSW it is definitely chilly (obviously not as chilly as further south :D)
