The Friday Archives – my first softies.

Well! What a few days. We’ve been in hospital for a couple with dear little Lily who has been sick (again) with a virus which developed into a nasty case of asthma. She is home now and doing much better, but I can not tell you how much this kind of experience makes you take a little step back and make more time for children schmooching. I’m sure you can imagine.

I was fully intending to go over to my Mum and Dad’s this week and dig out some really old stuff for my Friday Archives* selection for today but that never happened. Instead I am republishing my first ever little softies from 2002. They are still knocking around the house somewhere, and considering they were made from synthetic felt (I had yet to discover the joys of wool felt) they have lasted well.

And also – there is an interview with me up at Plush You… slightly garbled because I sent it off the morning we went in to hospital with a slightly “that will have to do!” attitude. Thanks for having me Plush You. Kristen used some samples of my work which made me realise how long ago it has been since I have actually made any softies.

And because it’s all about softies today – check out the Softies for Mirabel Project — I am about to start doodling ideas for my contribution.

*Friday Archives — every Friday I am posting some old work of mine – art, craft, photography, writing… whatever takes my fancy. Others are playing along. If you are interested, join in the fun! Feel free to nab the button above, leave a comment, or just a link. It’s wonderful to dig up dusty old stuff from the past and realise how it might still influence you today.

I noticed in your interview on Plush You that you mentioned checking up on a lot of interior design blogs – do you have a list of your faves handy? I’m looking for some that keep up with colour trends and any that might be relevant to Australia or a more relaxed way of living (read island/bali style), (though I’m not adverse to overseas blogs either especially if they indicate what will eventually happen here trendwise.) Being a visual merchandiser at a homewares/furniture store I need to keep on top of trends – I thought it’d be easier to pick your brains for sites than spends hours searching for myself cause being a mum I have no spare time for that! But you already know that story!! I’d really appreciate any you could pass on (and thankyou in advance for spending your precious time to do so 🙂 )

it’s always scary to have to take the little ones to the hospital…so glad that Lily is doing better!you’re softies are so precious!! I love their sweet faces 🙂

So I’m totally cheating with Friday Archives and am including a picture of a DVD cover…it’s a movie I did when I was 19 for some hare-brained reason and no, it’s not a smutty film. Just a student film with really bad acting. I couldn’t even include a clip of the movie because I’m so unsavvy with that stuff. Here it is anyway:

Glad to hear Lily is home and feeling better! We went through the same thing back in December with Caleb…was probably my most frightening experience as a parent to date.Your flashback softies are so cute and would be perfect as infant lovies or rattles even.

Little ones having to go the hospital is the worst. And asthma is awful. Hope you all can get some rest this weekend!thanks for the cute softies – they make me remember that I have a big square of synthetic felt sitting around somewhere, waiting to be made into something!

I’m not quite sure how old Lily is, but when I was in hospital having Connor, Brennan (18 months at that stage) got so sick that he was in hospital for a week in an oxygen tent. Different hospital on the other side of Melbourne. It was a frantic time for my poor ex husband and my parents! For a year or so after that he was very asmatic-y, needing a nebuliser/pump thing every so often. There were a couple more hospital stays as well. Then we moved to the place we’re in now. We ripped up the carpets and had plain pine boards. His breathing problems cleared up and he’s been fine ever since. He’s now a strapping 13 year old who is taller than me. So hopefully the same will happen with Lily. They can and do grow out of it, and all of the worry and running around fades until it’s just a little part of the family history.ps. Those softies are extremely cute.
