Drawing 7 of 365

The girls went back to school today after a couple of weeks of holidays. And what do I do? Sit down and draw them. Sad really.

Here’s the early sketch version for the sake of keeping this all about the process:

And  here’s an early version – I actually like this better than the final:

Can you spot the difference? Just a tiny thing that makes a world of difference.

It’s probably a little truer to the relationship between the girls but to make a nice illustration that both girls will feel good about I changed it a little. If I had decided to make this nothing to do with my two actual daughters and called it “The McSquinty Sisters” or something, then this is definitely how I would have left it.

Now I’m going to go and wander about the quiet, quiet house wailing and wringing my hands until it’s time to pick them up from school. (ha).

A furrowed eyebrow! That was a fun spot-the-difference. Gorgeous illo – it would make a beautiful plate!PS. Hope you enjoy a nice cup of tea (or glass of wine) while you’re wringing your hands.

I saw it immediately! That eyebrow change turns it from nonfiction to fiction for sure… You don’t think they’d like it? And I agree, you should put this on a plate.

Or a wooden plaque on their bedroom door!

If you draw my girls, I’ll do an embroidery of your girls for you.

Spoonflower wall decal? Much lower effort than embroidery 😉

Wow I actually did not notice at first but indeed there it is the “crafty eyebrow”. I like both versions. The first version reminds me of certain elements of my relationships with my 2 older sisters. ;)L

Would love to see your process from start to finish if you have time in one of your blogs…eg, doodle, water colour on paper and scanned in etc etc?

This is such a great year project you’ve come up with! I don’t quite have a set schedule but I plan on doing at least two small paintings/drawings a week.Excited to follow your project.
