What’s Hot + What’s Not this week

How did it get to be Wednesday again so soon?

What’s hot and what’s not at your place? The weather is getting hotter around here and so is my frame of mind. Bonza. I had a few people asking me how to play along – it’s as easy as writing up your own hot/not list on your blog and then linking back to me and then adding your url to the widget below. Simple! So hot!

Hot

Home organisation – brilliant! I am actually making a difference around the house. What will be totally hot is if I keep it up for more than a fortnight. The house looks pretty fine at the moment and I am still managing to get some parenting and some NaNoWriMo-ing in.

Polly&Me handbags… (images above) so gorgeous. I saw a couple of these bags in a gorgeous shop in Bangalow last month and came home to look up the website. “Polly&me is an Australian sister team working in Pakistan. Cath Braid, a fashion designer who trained at Central St. Martins, London, started working in Chitral on a womenwear label “Caravana” and has been working in Chitral for six years. Now she and her sister Ange run the business Polly&Me with over 400 women across eight centers in and around Chitral town, producing textiles for women’s accessories.” (from Fashion Windows). The top two bags are from their current collection Sugar and Spice (how much I love that beautiful bag with songbirds and laundry – top right) and the bottom two bags are from the new range, Gup Shup, coming out soon. Bored to Death – love it. It makes me laugh out loud.

We have a big gap in our yard and I keen to fill it with a cubby house. I am super keen on this Roulotte in a garden in the Netherlands- -see what I mean? Who wouldn’t want such a cute playhouse? I have serious playhouse inspiration every time I visit Mikodesign.

Lemsip, echinacea, blueberry & pomegranite juice, vitamins, fruit and lots of water. Coaxing my immune system back into a more enthusiastic approach to life.

Not Hot

Arguing kids. Is this how it’s going to be for the next 15 plus years? Perhaps when they get to the age when they plug themselves into individual sound systems and cease communicating all together will be when we have some peace. Sad!

Not hot is not getting around to visit all the What’s Hot + What’s Not participants from last week. I’ll definitely come by and visit this week now that I have everything so neatly written on index cards and am totally organised! Thanks for playing along again. xx

I love any bits of home organization that I’ve done especially now as we are packing to move next week. Actually finding things that I’m looking for is novel and hot. What’s not hot for me this week is a complicated tooth extraction with a long healing time.

Three cheers for the index card file system. My family thinks I’m crazy, but I love it. And being organized = more creative/fun time for me.

  3. Jacqui says:

Isn’t it nice that the old-fashioned card index still works? I love the idea of the menu plan, I’ve been toying with it in my mind for awhile now but haven’t got to the point of being organised enough to be organised, if that makes sense. I loved having certain meals on certain days when I was a kid, it gave a real sense of security in an odd way!

  4. Viv says:

Tell us more about the organised, indexed home. It looks good – how does it work? Have tried the dinner plan and it’s a great idea. At least in theory you feel on top of the week ahead! Tell us, tell us more! Please…

  5. I understand that if parents inform kids that if any arguing is heard, regardless of who started it, then both children are to be deprived of their goodies it forces them to learn to control the impulse and work together. They say it takes calm cool consistent enforcement to do the trick. Two weekends without some fun will have THEM making sure there are no more fights.

  6. Meg says:

We are loving Bored to Death too. Ted Danson is so good!!

  7. Tanya says:

Oooh! I want a roulotte too! And as someone who LOVES lists and trying to be organised, I am in awe of your index card system and might just have to try it!! It’s weird, you know, posting my hot and not just after you means mine is a day earlier than yours?!! x

  8. Vic says:

I luff that birds over the clothesline bag (I am sure it has a much more chic name than that but I’m not clicking over to find out, it took about 15 minutes just for this page to load!).That WOULD make an amazing playhouse – I can’t wait until we have a house of our very own so that I can begin constuction on my very own… uh, I mean, Punk’s very own, lovely cubby…

  9. Hello, again, Claire! Those index cards are rocking my world as is Bored to Death. Just recently discovered it (we don’t have cable but our friend does). It is so clever and hilarious. And generally aesthetically pleasing. Ah!Your hot or not play-along is getting longer and longer every week. I was on top of the game this week! 🙂

  10. Katia says:

I love the idea of organised home!!! Please, tell us more about it! I am hopeless when it comes to this:(

  11. Sarah says:

Surely you can start the ‘Father Christmas is watching’ threats about now? A good rule of thumb – if the shops are stocking Christmas cards then Santa is out on the prowl with his beady eye….Well, that’s what keeps me on the straight and narrow from now until the 26th Dec!?!Love the index cards, wish I could be that organised…

  12. Beth says:

I’ve been dying to see Bored to Death! I love Jason Schwartzman!! I just have to convince my hubby that he’s cool 😉 x

  17. Tara says:

Home organisation is soooo hot, yes it is. I am trying to organise how to get organised, we just can’t rush these things. x

  18. Ammie says:

Delicious: both organization and tasty immune boosters are restorative. I think What’s Hot + What’s Not is restprative, too. Thanks for letting me play along!

  19. Ammie says:

Oops. Please don’t mind my typos.

  20. Lisa says:

I wish I could be so organized I love your week meal planner, I’d like to come for tea on Tuesday please I haven’t chicken pie for ages!:)

  21. CarolB says:

I make arguing kids speak their comments into a potato (used like a microphone). It is very hard to be taken seriously – or to take yourself seriously – when you are speaking into a potato.I’m impressed you are organizing AND doing NaNoWriMo AND blogging!

  22. Arguing children are never fun! I have an 11 and a 9 year old that constantly fight. Sometimes I force them to have alone time in their rooms..other times I force them to work on something, like a puzzle, together, so they have to work together and count on each other!

  23. Lisa says:

ooo just noticed that 2 Nunns are coming for fish and chips on sunday, fantastic!

  24. heather says:

My kids are 16 and 12, plus two step children (weekends only) that are 15 and 13. The arguing continues into this age unfortunately. We try to combat some of the arguing by taking each child out to dinner (one kid every other week) alone with either parent. The alone time sort of fills their reservoir of needed attention. Good luck 🙂

  25. Leonie says:

I love your index cards! Mine are boring and white – I’m using them to chronicle my job search. Maybe I should add some colour!I’m joining in again this week too 🙂

  26. gail says:

New to blog-life. Love your site! And really curious about your organizational index card system. How and what do you have organized in there, may I ask??? Thanks!

  27. Miss Sofia says:

Hot: The weather; Gossip Girl; Hanging out with friends. Not: Studying a bit too much; Annoying graphic design homework; The weather (it’s TOO hot).

  28. Abby says:

I agree with Viv – details on the index card menu system, please! So hoping I can find a way to plan menus that actually works for me!

  29. Lilli says:

Those index cards are inspiring…planning meals ahead is so sensible. I’d like to hear how this is going for you in a week or so you must keep us up-to-dated. I am always looking for new ways to be motivated in being ahead with planning for meals (& fail dismally!). I think I’m not alone from reading previous comments 😉

  30. Melanie says:

Your index card meal planning has me curious! I’d love to hear more on how your system works!

  31. Kate says:

I wish orgnisation was hot at our house, might make it my aim for next week.

  32. Lea says:

21,000 words AND an organized home. I am very impressed and a little envious! well done.

  33. Clare says:

    wots hot Adelaide 43 degrees!!!

  34. karen k says:

I also have a similar filing system to your index cards for the days of the month and then months coming up. I call it a tickler file (a term by David Allen of Getting Things Done) and I just use it for possible upcoming events or things that “tickle” my interest. So if I see an ad for an event coming up, I can rip it out of the newspaper, stick it in the appropriate day, and forget about forgetting about it 🙂
