What’s Hot + What’s Not Wednesday

Hello – There is a phantom publishing this post, as  I am some miles away hopefully lying on a beach or sipping a cocktail. What – no internet for 5 days? CRAZY. But here’s my What’s Hot + What’s Not Wednesday – it was great to hop about the place last week and find out what’s hot and what’s not elsewhere, so please feel free to post the link to your url below if you take part.

HOT

Fake tan! I got a fake tan – oh so funny. Amelia couldn’t look at me without saying “I want the real you back!”. I have never, ever had a tan in my whole life so it was really very novel. I was surprised at how good all my clothes looked. Now I get why people like to look brown. The actual spray tan process was not nearly as humiliating as I imagined and I am not even orange. Amazing! It’s too bad I discovered this in an era when it is completely dangerous to get out in the sun and get the natural version of this.

Migaloo: (above) An albino humpback whale. He was sighted off Byron Bay on the 28th of September. He’s probably well and truly gone by now, but I hope to see some whales (and maybe their calves) on their way home from their migration south. I am also packing binoculars because imagine how many new birds there will be to add to my list! The place we are staying even has a downloadable bird walk brochure. Awesome. (Tag: bird nerd)

Paul’s chocolates. Our good friend Paul did a chocolate making class last week and he gave us a box of his beautiful goodies. I am so impressed with how beautiful and interesting they are, and how good they taste. We spent quite a lot of time trying to convince Paul to try out for Master Chef for next season… but then we all wondered if there is anyone who needs that amount of stress in life.

Upgrading iTunes and sharing all Phil’s music. So much good listening going on around here.

NOT

Pale people (but not pale whales – ha ha!)

The little barky dog next door, right outside our bedroom window. We had a peek at him over the fence and he’s insanely cute but he does have a tendency to need to express himself at all the wrong times.

A small child with post-viral asthma: Phil and I were running on stress for two days. She’s getting better but I am no good at sleeping while wondering if we are going to be leaping into an ambulance at any moment.

Survivor Samoa. I dunno. We watched the first episode and there a couple of characters who are so mean I didn’t feel compelled to tune in again. I *know* they are probably actors, I *know* they need bad guys… but it left me with such a bad taste in my mouth.

Hot or Not? Alexander McQueen’s 10 inch stiletto pod shoes — I can’t stop looking at these. Surely influenced by the Alien films – but amazing and creepy and dangerous! What do you think?

Hi!Thanks for doing this list, have really enjoyed reading others Hots & Nots!Loving the Albino Whale!. We are in Broadbeach about an hour or so north of Byron Bay and have an amazing view of whales from our balcony but haven’t spotted the Migaloo! Shame…As for the shoes…Soooo NOT hot. They look like Megadeath pointe shoes! Yuk!

Ooh thanks for letting my know Survivor has started. Gareth and I are big fans of the show, although I am not a fan of bitches, unless they get booted! I think I better do another hot/not Yay/Nay, I keep thinking of things and if they are hot or not. Plus that albino whale is a bit insane. I wonder if he has problems with sunburn?

  4. Tania says:

Congratulations on rejecting the pale, sidestepping the orange and coming over bronzed. Hope ‘Not’ number 2 and 3 are distinctly hotter by the time Thursday rolls around…

  5. Holly says:

The shoes are definitely dangerous (and odd) but the clothes are amazing, beautiful, ethereal, gorgeous!

Where did you get Survivor Samoa? We’re still watching Gabon. Did you download it?

  7. That’s a great list! It seems everyone is getting on the HOT or NOT bandwagon – I have a whole website devoted to what’s HOT and what’s NOT in Melbourne-town! Jetsetting Joyce

Those shoes for walking or even standing are really bad! They hurt just to contemplate!I don’t mind the art work though. Chele x P.S.It looks like they were designed by Geiger?

  11. Anja says:

Looking forward to hearing about the whales! I’ve never seen one, but my husband was on a whale safari in Greenland a couple of years ago. I’m still envious 🙂 And I like the bird nerd thing too, I’m getting there myself…

  12. Lisa says:

Those shoes are like works of art! I love looking at them but not very practical for the school run or for a boogey on the dance floor after a few shandy’s! lovely though! ( did I really say boogey?! gosh I’m getting old!)

  13. Ammie says:

Oh, I vote not hot mongo stiletto pods. Weird, yes. Mesmerizing, yes. Hot, no.

  14. Amy says:

I’m going to say “not” on those shoes. They creep me out. I’m very interested to see what the consensus is here, though!

  16. Mmm, chocolate. Hot. Not being orange. Hot. Alexander McQueen shoes, maybe not hot, but I am partial to flats. This list is so fun. I love reading everyone’s! Thanks!

I got my first fake tan last year and in my excitement completely forgot it was dare I admit it!..(That time of the month)..”Oh my god what do I do here?” I thought…but braved the situation, didn’t go all blotchy as alledgedly you can and managed a fake tan that made me feel great for my big night out! Enjoy yours too while whale watching, have a gorgeous time…

  18. Lea says:

Albino whale….whoa, that is very hot

  19. Happydacks says:

  20. Katie says:

Oooh. That chocolate IS hot! I still have the tan lines on my feet from my Chaco sandals, but as we move into winter in Kentucky, I am headed back into pale territory. This week for me, a raincoat is hot and so is a husband who has major computer skills. What’s not hot is a muddy kitchen floor and mortgage companies.

  21. Minigirl says:

EEww those shoes. Ghastly, they look like the shoes Asian girls were crippled in with bound feet. It is like the Emporer’s new clothes. Just because they are on the runway, doesn’t make them pretty or good for women. No man would ever be hobbled by those. Perfect if your aim in life is to stand in one place and be an object. Guess I am lucky to be able to work barefoot most days.
