Sleepless first nights
New holiday routines (or no routine), new bedrooms, strange noises, funny shapes in the dark… two small nocturnal people… one so terrified of the shaggy pine tree silhouted against the night sky outside her window that she was shrieking and shuddering in my bed… anyway… we’re tired today. Hopefully all will sleep better tonight and the phantom tree monster and phantom rustling mice will leave us alone so day two of our holiday will be less full of tantrums.
All that being said, there were some nice moments and a good walk up the hill – a blue sky and a light wind.
As a kid, the shape of some trees across the street in my night time window looked like a gorilla. Sometimes the gorilla was curiously friendly, other times he was out to get me. I also had a mystery cricket one summer. Naturally, I was terrified at the idea of waking up to a bug sitting on my bed.Nowadays, 20 years on, I miss the gorilla and the cricket, especially on a cool summer night.
These dresses are beautiful, it looks oddly Scandinavian and idyllic.
Beautiful shot of the girls. Love this. Your blog is beautiful and inspiring. I warmly invite you to visit me at my country garden blog anytime! Hugs, Gwyn
We only returned today from two weeks in SA and on Kangaroo Island. I have to say that although gorgeous gorgeous scenery and things to do, it was the least relaxing holiday ever. Only in the last two days out of 14 did the big one stop saying constantly how homesick she was – that was one contingency we didn’t count on. The babe was with me 24/7 (toilet, shower the works) too, it was absurd!!! We’re home now and nan and pa picked us up and I kid you not, babe says “I don’t need you now mum, I’ve got nan and pa”!!! Can’t believe I’m saying this, but the time may have arrived to holiday with the parents!
