My studio is full of half finished, half thought out projects. I get a flush of early enthusiasm and then other things get in the way. I haven’t got the heart to throw them away so they get stashed and collect dust.

From top to bottom:

A little girl doll prototype for a project which I will go back to one day.

A pattern prototype I was working on but never really loved.

Oil paintings – I got distracted after the first few coats on three or four of these.

Pyjama bag pattern prototype – she just didn’t work so I shelved that idea for the time being.

Punkdorf dolls and heads. These I will finish. The bodies are quick compared to the struggle I have forming these heads.

Spray paint art. I enjoyed this process so much but it was pretty time consuming and my plywood warped so that got stuck in the “too hard basket.

Welcome to my brain. You can see how I frustrate my friends.

There are more creative spaces over at Kirsty’s place! xx

Its interesting to go back sometimes and pick up something youve half finished, to get that rush you need to finish it off! (if you know what I mean) I love the proto type…it looks very lovable.

Doesn’t everyone have a studio(cupboard, drawer, sketchbook) full of those? My mother finishes every knitting or sewing project she starts, but she always uses a pattern, if you don’t have a pattern there are going to be some that don’t work out or require extra thinking time.

So cute – that top one is just adorable 🙂 K

  5. Abandoned as they are, I really like all of them. Sometimes the creative mind just scatters in a million different directions…. 🙂

Oh yeah! I remember you creating the spray paint art. I know what it’s like having so much on the go, adding to it, and forgetting the earlier projects. It has been for this very reason I’ve had to start a list to remind myself of what I am doing, and who I am.

To be honest, your post made me feel a little sad (an overactive imagination which sees poor half finished pieces wondering around at midnight looking for their missing parts)as does watching a gradual dip form in the top of my cooling chocolate cake *grrr*. But, the little doll at the top is very sweet and I do hope you’ll get back to her 🙂 x

they would all sell for HEAPS if you finished them off… someone would love them all…it is not fair to be so talented!! Not fair at all!

  9. Michelle says:

I often wonder what to with the half-finished/didn’t work/rejects. Nice to know I am not the only one.

  10. Skebba says:

Oh, poor abandoned thingamajigs. My brain is loving your brain – it is asking for your brain’s phone number. Seems they are a perfect match.

  11. Kellie says:

So many ideas, finished or not, in awe anyhows.

  12. Holly says:

It’s so good to see the ones that didn’t make it represented as well as the ones that did!Holly xx

  13. At least you’ll never be bored/short of a project or six! I wish my brain worked liked yours – even your unfinished work is lovely!

  14. Kate says:

Do they all stare at you with longing eyes (or none) thinking pick me, finish me?

  15. Kirsty says:

All fabulous…I enjoyed the little wander through your creative mind Claire.

  16. flowerpress says:

All too familiar 🙂 I love all your half finished projects, much more than my own! And I love those japanese ukelele guys (so catchy!). I’ve been enjoying all of the videos you’ve posted recently. Thanks!

  17. Lisa says:

Oh my studio is the same, I have lists of projects to do and time/ energy never allows them to be even started. The first little doll is adorable, I love her little dot eyebrows!

  18. Katy says:

In love with your stencilled art – you should give it another crack, it looks very cool to me 🙂

  19. Jess says:

I love that first doll sooo much you must go back to her. And also the pajama bag too!! They are all lovely! but it really has to be up to the maker, I have lots of regret heads and if I’m not happy or my hearts no in it then they get turfed into the corner, and no matter how much people like them.Although I mean your stuff is sooo beautiful and not that any of your things are rejects , I was just sort of saying I understand about abandoned projects. ( i hope I haven’t been insulting, because I really didn’t mean it!)

  20. I bet you inspire your friends.I love ‘little girl doll prototype’s’ hair. Awesome.

  21. Thank you for showing us all the projects that were started and never finished! I have a shelf like this in my workspace, too. We call it “the shelf of the damned.” I just cleaned it out to make space for fabric, but it is hard to throw away some of those unfinished projects!

  22. ani says:

if that first little doll ever needs a home, i’d be happy to take her! she’s super sweet.

  23. amanda says:

    I love that pajama bag-to-be. I hope you’ll finish her someday…

  24. molly jean says:

they all look great to me!

  25. Alisa says:

Ahhh, (nods sagely as if she doesn’t have oodles of the same! Haha )It’s amazing how all ideas fight to have their time in the sun, reincarnated into something else, the main elements live on. These are all calmly waiting.

  26. melanie says:

At least you have started stuff. I seem to have trouble even starting projects. You never know though, one day you might have a new idea which needs a thingamebob and voila, you already have one handy!

  27. Sarah B. says:

Adorable, one and all! I especially love the first doll and the pajama bag, but the paintings are nice, too. And if you put a face on that little creature, I’d love it, too! Being an admirer but not a maker of such things, I say you should sell them on etsy/ebay to someone like me who would truly appreciate them, but I know the artist in you might not allow it.

I have a large box with the word “Unfinished” written on top. Inside there must be dozens of such items. I haven’t looked inside in ages. I think I’d best leave it be for now. Your unfinished things are charming all.

  29. Mandy says:

I love all of it, even if they’re half-finished. Your personal style just shines through in all of the pieces.

  30. M* says:

When I looked at your pictures I felt like hugging them all. Finished or unfinished they are still adorable and squishable.=)

  31. midge says:

my “crafty cottage in the garden” is also a halfway house for abandoned projects that all seemed like a great idea at the time. yours look very worthy of finishing, there is some creative gold amongst them. not so sure about mine, i think i just have some bizar never throw anything out syndrome

  32. Miss Kate says:

I love them all! But feel sad that they have been left unfinished… They deserve the dignity of being finished Loobylu! Like your other readers I am jealous of your creativity and wish you could see how wonderful and deserved they all are!

  33. Melissa says:

oh, that little lass at the top is just too sweet!
