Skipping in the daisies

Saturday afternoon and we’re wagging swimming lessons. Just another thing to not tick off the list this week.

So what have you been up to?

I’ve been in stalling mode. House needs cleaning, hair needs cutting, writing needs writing, softies need sewing (I need a little banana slug in my studio to get that done), books need reading, dinners need cooking, plans need planning, weeds need weeding.

Things I have managed to get done lately (brace yourself, it’s been a killer week);

I gave myself a recession-era fringe cut which may have been a mistake.

I made Mum’s You’ve got Friends Chocolate Cake and it worked! I did the 1.5 size recipe and used a big bundt tin and it was a great success.

I twittered about a library book full of cat hair and a fish bone stuck in my throat.

I watched loads of telly… Season 3 of the Mighty Boosh (loved it), Starter for 10 (great), Oscar & Lucinda (lovely), Survivor (oh yes), Lost (to keep Phil company these days),  Flight of the Conchords (and bought Carol Brown so I can listen to it all the time), The Jane Austen Book Club (meh), and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (still watchable).

I heard myself tell someone that we don’t watch a lot of television. At that moment I actually believed it.

I had lots of coffees, at Bliss, at Snow Pony, at Laurent, at home from a packet of Jasper’s and then heard myself tell someone that we are not spending any money on unnecessary items in 2009.

I downloaded M Ward’s new album, Clementine by Melbourne’s (not Norway’s) Washington, The Lark Ascending (which reminds me so much of that wonderful movie ‘The Year my Voice Broke’) and listened to the Dodo’s a lot while I was pretending to write.

I looked at loads of Oscars frocks and then looked at the NME awards photos and felt a bit relieved that the Brits are still so grungy. Clearly not a stylist in the house.

And in case you missed it, I listed a softie on Ebay for the Bushfire Appeal and it ends Monday!

‘Carol Brown’ is my favourite part of that Flight of the Conchords episode. I’ve watched it a couple of times just for the song, particularly the lines about cereal.

You may like ‘Freaks and Geeks’, and ‘Wonderfalls’ tv series that never made it to Australia.I always cut my fridge too short. Hey it always grows out in a few weeks.

Freaks and Geeks and Wonderfalls are both excellent – we have both on dvd. LOVE Freaks and Geeks.I just read a quote from that movie “He’s just not that into you” which says something along the lines as one of the things that girls just grow up knowing is that you don’t cut your own fringe – it’s news to me! But then again, maybe I should have paid attention to whoever was dolling out such wisdom in utero.

You know I like to run but tomorrow I shall skip a little & think of daisies & you!Snow Pony…cool has made it out to the burbs. I trust the coffee was good. I’m a wee bit sorry I didn’t bump into you there.

  5. Oscar and Lucinda – what a great story (the movie provides a happier ending than the book); Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (‘Save Ferris’ – perhaps the greatest performance of all those actor’s careers). On Thursday I created a felt piece for Pip’s Make-a-long group project. I then felt inspired to make some softies on Friday, but that plan died in the derierre. What with a six week bub on my hands it just got to be too much, taking care of baby Gwen, keeping the house clean, working on my illustrated art, blogging and doing some sewing on top of that. So something had to give, which realistically had to be the sewing coz it really does just clutter the house. And packing it up each day is just too much.

I need to get back to finishing my Autumn zine. I keep putting that on the backburner – bad habit. I seem to start new projects when I haven’t even finished the old ones.

I have some great ideas for some children’s books I am thinking of fleshing out. Busy, busy little head of mine.

Ha! I love the bit about not watching a lot of television and not spending money on unnecessary items! Sounds all too familiar! Will add my two cents on Freeks and Geeks – absolutely brilliant.

I can’t bring myself to watch season three of the Mighty Boosh because I loved season two too much. I am glad to hear it measured up. If only we hadn’t gotten rid of the TV in our own quest for a simpler life! Your week sounds lovely. I’m all for the slow life.

I need a nap after all that! Fantastic result on the bunny – I had intended to make a doll, but I’m in overdraft on energy levels right now, cash was the lazy aka easy option.

I cut my fringe all the time. But I have learnt by experience that if you think it is still too long, and you might just take a smidge more off, wait until the next day, and decide then.

I’m having a chuckle here. Fantastic result with your bunny for the bushfire!

Well your list made me feel better, I have ironed but not vacuumed, watered but no weeded, shopped for food but cooked little. And how did you watch Survivor? I have to confess that I have been watching season one of Gilmore Girls, five episodes straight on one very hot day, with six more seasons on loan from a friend there could be a lot “in front of the telly” kind of jobs done.

Great result on your little bunny!I’ve also added a few recommended DVD’s from the comments above!
