Punkdorfing it up
I’m not exactly sure what I did but I somehow lost the contents of this post this morning so I thought I should put the photos back up but I can’t remember exactly what I wrote about them. The above doll is one I have just finished working on for Lil’s Christmas present. The one below is of Amelia’s doll, still a work-in-progress. I do remember saying that the doll reminds me of a grumpy and slightly aggressive surfy boy who was in my first year Graphic Design class… and that obviously I need to move away from this look and get something a little less surly.
A couple of people asked me how I do the doll’s hair. It’s a bit of a scratchy method which may not lead to hair with longevity but I will work on a simple tutorial soon.

Your girls are going to love their punkdorf dolls! So much nicer, and cuddlier than a Barbie or (eeek!) a Bratz doll (which is what my daughter would love, but only beacuse she knows I won’t let her have one).Happy Christmas! 😀

ooooh Liberty! *drools* yes i’m hoarding some liberties of my own, i ruined 10cm sp of it last week and am fretting (dolly dress failure) but i need to get over the fear of using such a gorgeous fabris so i can enjoy it being on a dolly!

Would you consider giving a short tutorial on how to attach and style yarn hair on dolls? Because I’m having a really hard time figuring it out!

Oh she is so adorable. I’m sure your girls will just adore their punkdorfs. I just started venturing into Waldorf doll making too; I have both of those great books and I also have better results around the neck following the latter.BTW, I’m such a fan of your work!
do you have any advice on how to sew on the hair? i’m making a rag doll (first time ever) for my toddler and have been having trouble with the hair… i did do several google searches, but nothing satisfied – either the hair would be too loose (and get pulled out) or it seemed unnecessarily messy (glue). i finally sort of came up with my own solution, but i’m not entirely happy with it, and much prefer the way that yours looks! any advice or book suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

I too have two of my dolls to finish for E&L. They’re all finished in themselves, but the clothes are waiting to be stitched. Aside from them, two cushion covers to make and one apron for my mum that I cut out last year and never got too – for some reason it stumped me and I”m determined to finish it this year. OH and I’ve just remembered the 09 calendar my girls haven’t finished doing for my parents …..
um, okay. i have a total of zero crafting skills, so making this is out of the question for me. but my little one year old MUST HAVE ONE…so what do i do?? do you sell them on etsy? WOULD YOU? i’ve never heard of punkdorf or waldorf or anything…but i desperately want one! it’s just so adorable!!

Cute dolls!! I like how you’ve used different types of fabric for face, arms and legs. I’ve made a couple of these before and I’ve found the hair always the hardest part. That and positioning the eyes. For my last doll I a used a crocheted cap where I pulled through pieces of yarn. I put on so much hair that the doll was plain ugly!
