Big house, big bed

That house is getting bigger and bigger. I know it’s not going to last, but I quite like the way the structure fills with the early evening sun and glows yellow, spilling fragments of light into our house in new and odd places.

And all is quiet tonight – which is amazing because it’s Lily’s first night in her new BIG bed and it’s a very big event.

That’s the bed! The mystery object from last week. I found a cheap bed frame on ebay, found a place just up the road that powder coats stuff ($90!) and voila! Not quite the Cath Kidston beauty but it makes me happy and it was thrifty and Lily loves her NEW BIG RED BED. The quilt is a very old one from my childhood which I think is one of my Grandma’s very first pieces. It’s pretty loud, but sadly getting pretty faded in parts and is a nice stand in until I finish my bazillion other projects and make Lil a new quilt. Maybe it will just stay that way.

She looks so tiny in that bed. I tried to take a photo of her in it while Phil read her bedtime stories, but in every single photo she is a complete blur of movement –  she was tucking herself in, rearranging her pillows, moving her blanky into a better position, finding that her pillow was slipping etc etc.

And don’t forget those rabbits on auction!

Don’t they love a new bed? Even when they’re older. Ryan and Evan were ecststic when we switched from bunks back to single beds. (Nice bargain with the bed… I paid $200 or so for a plain red powder coated bed.)

fabulous bed!and equal fabulousness on the baby STAYING in bed.we bought our daughter a big girl bed, and she still sleeps with us.she has this great little room – and it sits empty – waiting for someone to claim it.

Oh! She’s more of the pea then the princess in that bed isn’t she?! that blankie is special, isn’t it? very seventies gorgeous, i think. it reminds me of those jan pienkowski illustrations in the Joan Aiken books… perhaps it was in ‘a necklace of raindrops’… or one of those titles. i think there was a lovely quilt in one of those… i think…! how exciting to have a cosy new bed!

The bed is very cool. Congrats on making the transition to the big girl bed. Quite a big milestone.I just wanted to write that I think you are being so amazing with you attitude towards the building next door. We are building a house right now and I wish my neighbours had even a tiny bit more grace about the situation. I can’t tell you the personal hell they have created with us at every turn. Good on you!

I remember when we moved my daughter into her big girl bed. It was similar to yours…a pink metal daybed…the original idea was that we’d paint it a different color, but we never did. We got rid of it when we moved cross country. I remember how tiny my little one looked in her bed as well.I also love the painted cupboard! Yummy!

    Happy Thanksgiving!
