Peas in the pod
Lily loves to pod peas. She has such a sweet, methodical way of popping them out. It’s a bit of a joy to watch. The olives? Her other passion.
And speaking of little peas – My dear friend Kim had her baby last night. I can’t be any more excited. I spent most of the night tossing and turning and waiting for text messages with updates. Kim is my all time super-star-action-hero. And now little Georgina is here and she is beautiful. Amelia announced to her class at ten to 9 this morning that she has a new Fairy God Sister (which is perfectly logical because Kim was her appointed Fairy God Mother). While all this was going on, all the way up in Sydney, my lovely one and only cousin and his wife were going through much the same and little baby X (still waiting on that name) will be next in line for one of my Punkdorf dolls. We will get to meet him in the New Year. I keep weeping… so much emotion!
When my sister was in labor ovenight and in Sydney, I had my mobile under my pillow just to make sure I heard it ring. It’s possible I started weeping within nanoseconds of the news. It’s amazing how close it feels.
How lovely–I am set to become an aunt for the first time next year and I am already shocked at how emotional I feel about it all!Also spent yesterday shelling new season peas with my kids and neighbours around the communal outdoor table. What a meditative and conversation-provoking activity it is–and how precious that little bowl full of peas that come from all that busy work.

I love hearing new babies names, it doesn’t matter if I don’t know who they are, I just want to know what they are called.
I love the pea picture!! I found a knitting pattern for 2 peas in a pod – very cute!! You could shell those peas forever.Babies are everywhere at the moment – I have one set of friends whose baby is due tomorrow and another on Friday! better get knitting….
My children love shelling peas. I’ve been known to buy them a bag of peas to shell when meeting a friend for coffee. They happily shell away while I get some chatting done.

It’s a veritable baby boom this year! Or maybe it just seems that way to me since I had a baby, and then 13 hours later my best friend’s little pumpkin showed up too. It’s baby-fest everywhere we go.Making things for babies just about beats everything else, too. Have you seen the Amy Butler “Little Stitches for Little People” book? Just flipping through the pages and seeing all those sweet faces in the cutest little clothes and blankies, etc., is neartly heart-breaking.

Dear ClaireI am an old work colleague/friend of Kim’s and we have lost touch over the past few years. I was surprised and delighted all at once when I saw your post last night. I too am so excited for Kim. Would you please send her a huge congratulations from me! It really is just the best news I have heard all week. I know how much she wanted this baby!

Babies, leave quite an emotional trail don’t they. I think as we get older we just understand what a complete miracle it is that any of them make it into our arms…sweetness.
I am always a ball of nerves when those dear to me are in labor. I do not even understand how babies that are not your own can feel just the same in the amount of love you can give them.
This post cracks me up! Well, the first part, at least! It sounds just like me! I love podding peas. And my favorite snack…green olives! My husband thinks those are two of the strangest things about me.
We don’t get many peas at dinner as our girl eats most of them when shelling them!
Looks just like our place. The girls both only like raw vegies and fresh peas are the veg of choice and also olives, preferably kalamata (with the pitts in) are devoured.
