Birthday cake

I am on the mend. Each day I manage to spend a few more hours out of bed which is such a good thing. I have been getting so bored and frustrated with my lack of energy.

I thought I would include today a photo of Amelia’s 6th birthday cake from when we were up in the country. It was the day before I fell apart with a hallucinogenic fever and looking back I now fully understand why organising any kind of birthday party seemed incredibly hard. The cake was from a packet and completely fell apart, the games were limited and the guest list was incredibly short but the whole thing taught me a little lesson – Amelia said to me “That was the best birthday party ever!”. It really doesn’t take much to make a kid happy (and enormous amounts of sweets and frosting will save any cake in the eyes of a 6 year old).

Happy 6th birthday my beautiful girl. Imagine that? 6!

Gorgeousness: Studio Violet

PS. Thank you for all the sweet get wells over the last week. It helped so much! xx

  9. your point is so well taken! I need to focus on that next time I’m stressing over the ‘perfect’ decor for a birthday party. what an adorably messy cake, and looks like it was definitely tasty! And I’m very glad indeed to hear you are feeling better. You can’t mess around with pneumonia! my friend Anna was recently put in the hospital for a week with it!My God bless you with a quick recovery and more energy!

Glad you’re feeling better. For Connor’s birthday party I stood at the stove and made pancakes for all of the kids. Nothing 12 year old boys like more than that. Apparently his party was ‘awesome’ because of it.

As I’m reading your cake post ….Hannah (3.5 yrs): “I want THAT cake for my birthday mum. Is it my birthday soon?”

So thank you. Your cake looks like a lot more fun to make than the dog cake she was admiring last week.

  13. Bobbi says:

Glad your feeling better. I know exactly why your little Amelia loved her birthday…because mommy did it! I really don’t think our kids could care less if we are like martha, they think we’re awesome just the way we are! Hope you a speedy recovery. Go slow, it will take a while!

I still can’t believe how long I’ve been reading some of the blogs on the web – it really hits home when I see the wee ones grow up! I remember reading your blog absolute ages ago before you had two beautiful girls. Strange to think how time flies. A very happy birthday to Lily and hope you’re continuing to spring back into shape after your bout. *Warm thoughts*

Don’t worry about the cake…when my little sister turned one, my mum baked a big cake which duly collapsed in the middle after being brought out of the oven. Even though the cake looked like a gorgeous pair of chocolate breasts – my sister and the rest of the family remember the cake fondly! Feel better soon! 🙂

I started reading when my little girl was only 6 months old and Amelia a few months – lordy, 6 years goes quickly! Our birthday parties have been getting simpler and simpler – a specially decorated cake is mandatory and after that, it’s friends around for a play. As long as pass the parcel happens, everything’s sweet!

Your coping mechanisms must have been turned up to full! Kids parties can almost do me in.Speaking of baking, my daughter googled the recipe for chocolate brownies the other day, and unbeknown to me, was using Your recipe!!!They worked pretty well, some were more gooey than others, but we ate those ones right out of the tray.Hope your getting stronger xx Liz @ Betty jo
