Time is a-marching

I had my 36 week check-up at the doctor’s this morning and he said “36 weeks! We’re getting serious!”. Well yes, I guess we should be. But honestly I think I might still be slightly in denial. But I have been washing copious amounts of baby clothes in Lux flakes and I have been contemplating buying some slippers for hospital but even so the whole idea of another little person living here is quite surreal.

I have a friend who has two girls who told me that it was quite strange holding her second child for the first time and realising in a puzzled kind of way that no, this isn’t child number one but a completely different, unique separate little being. I can quite believe it. I am quite excited about getting to know another little body. Will she be as loud and as stubborn as her sister? As sensitive and imaginative? As funny? As snuggly? Will she prefer playdough to the sandpit?

Will she actually be a girl? We were given an 85% confirmation that it is a girl from an early ultrasound, but apparently they are quite often wrong and 15% seems like a big chance that it could be a boy! So there are lots of things to wonder about.

I hope to goodness that it is a girl because look what we lucky people received in the mail yesterday from Hillary! You can imagine how excited I was when I opened the envelope. I tried to photograph them myself today but the light is terrible and then my camera battery ran out… so this is a snap from Hillary’s site. You can see the other little package she put together for another baby here – and marvel at how beautifully she makes things. The little embroidered doll is especially exquisite. Thank you lovely Hillary.

  1. Oh yeah!! Only 4 more weeks! I can’t wait to “see” her (which really means I am hoping to hear all about her”.
Those gifties are lovely which is perfect for what I am sure will be such a lovely little one!!

  2. Hey Claire, aren’t you supposed to have another ultrasound at 35 weeks? They do it here (in the US), and I’m actually looking forward to it (I’m week 30 now). Thank you for your pregnancy posts. Those booties are adorable 🙂

  3. I did see those little sets on Hillary’s site and loved them. Didn’t even click, the blue and the orange was a dead give away. I just love those little booties. Imagine tiny feet in them!

  4. Congratulations on 36 weeks! I am 22 weeks today with my second bub, and somehow keep forgetting which week I am up to… hopefully by 36 weeks I’ll have the hang of it. Good luck with the remaining 4(?)
PS: those booties are just adorable

  5. Ok…so my hubby has a dress shirt out of that butterfly material. Exactly the same. 🙂 HA!
Your sweetie will be so cute!

  6. You’re in the home stretch now! And just a bit of info to add to the 85%/15% statistics pot…my 85% chance of girl ended up being 100% boy! Granted our 85% chance was estimated by a technician with very thick bifocals and a sonogram machine that quite possibly could’ve been as old as me.

  7. 15%! that little boy better like to wear bonnets 😉 and you’re very welcome. xo
completely different little person? whenever I imagine another child it’s just another Oscar. or maybe a little Oscar in a dress.

  8. Congrats on 36 weeks! I’m almost at 20 weeks, but have to mark it on my calendar to keep track of it. You are so fortunate to have received some of Hillary’s handiwork. She produces such beautiful things.Hope the rest of the pregnancy goes smoothly!

  9. It’s crazy isn’t it? I turned 36 weeks yesterday. I’m going through a lot of the same things you’re describing. No matter I get reminded I’m pregnant a million times a day, I still just freak out in a way. WHOA there’s ANOTHER baby coming. This is my second too, with my son being two and a half years old. Should be interesting. Best of luck to you!

  10. What an exciting time this must be for you… I hope you are enjoying it, although I’m sure it’s fairly stressful as well. :-p
That little baby care package you received is just precious! And she must have read about the colors in your room, because they match perfectly! 😀

  11. ah how well I remember the home stretch…
Those bonnets are too wonderful. My oldest sister (the only decent seamstress of 4 girls!) made me several calico bonnets way back when Holly Hobby was all the rage. What can I say, it was the 70’s and I wanted to be Laura Ingalls 😉 I wore those things ALL the time.

Love those booties, too. sweet baby things.

  12. Oh good luck Claire – it’s not long to go now.
And I just ADORE those booties Hillary makes. Lucky bubba (even if it does turn out to be a boy!!!)

You are a very lucky girl to have a friend like Hillary. Put a good word in for me, ok ? I like free cute things in the mail too :p

  14. Lucky indeed, I saw those bonnets and dolls and booties on Hillary’s site when she posted them and thought them just beautiful. Second children are just as fabulous and fantastic and perfect as the first. And all their own little selves. It’s just as magical and new.

all best wishes from a (rather emotional) mother of two totally unique, completely individual and earth-shatteringly beautiful little girls.

  16. Wow – that gift is divine. If it is a boy, you might have to try for third just so they can enjoy that gift!!

  17. Woohoo on the 36wks! your are almost on the home stretch now – it will be a wonderful experience all over again and even better as Amelia will be able to join in and become a big sister! What a beautiful gift you received!
