Oh my aching back

I honestly cannot believe how much I managed to get done today. Most days I barely move, but today I:
– washed and hung out two loads of clothes.

– collected together and hauled hard rubbish out on to the nature strip for pick up next week.

– motivated Big-P into hauling the old dryer (which finally gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago – thank goodness. It really was a beast of a thing.) out on the nature strip ready for pick up.

– played cupcake shops with Amelia using coloured buttons as cupcakes.

– made bread which didn’t rise. I have no idea what happened but it is possible that in my current vague state I actually forgot to include the yeast.

– walked down to the shop to buy a loaf of bread because the bread didn’t rise. It was an incredibly pleasant morning and as I wandered along I could admire other people’s piles of hard rubbish. Nothing good to salvage.

– came home and pruned a bush and pulled out huge amounts of nasturtiums from the garden which I planted in spring which are now threatening to take over and choke the rest of the garden.

– made guacamole for lunch.

– started to cut out squares for baby quilt.

– (quite tired by this stage) slept heavily for an hour while Big-P took Amelia to the playground.

– picked basil from the garden, made pesto (Delia’s recipe, see the pesto part of this recipe here) and put it over pasta for dinner and then froze the rest for two more dinners.

– made bread which did rise but didn’t cook completely in the middle. It’s still good.

– read vast amounts of bedtime stories, all by the very entertaining Canadian author Robert N Munsch.

– watched Project Runway Season 2 Finale (yawn), read some more of “Living the Goodlife” and updated this here blog.

Sadly I didn’t get everything done. There are still dishes to be washed, emails to be answered, phone calls to be made etc. but all of that will have to wait. It also looks like a huge tidal wave of toys and other miscellaneous rubbish came in and washed through our house, but while Big-P is working incredibly hard and I am still just as pregnant as ever (and getting more so every day! Fancy that!) things like a tidy house never seemed less important.

I am now totally and absolutely exhausted. I can barely walk. When I got down on Amelia’s floor to put away all the books she had gone through to choose the Robert Munsch ones, I couldn’t get up again. I contemplated sliding on my bum across the floorboards to clamber up using her bed head but even that was too much effort so I feebly called to Big-P for assistance. Tomorrow will, no doubt, be a far quieter one.

i know this will sound weird coming from a complete stranger – but you’ll NEVER get rid of those nasturtiums! when i lived with my parents my mum planted some and then years later after they had taken over the garden my dad dug them all up and then put lawn over where they used to be and they grew THROUGH THE LAWN! it was insane! anyway, thanks for writing about your life in such a wonderful way. good luck with your 2nd baby. and who knows! you might get another obscure plant comment from me in the future 😉 Beth.

Gosh, You were very busy! Makes me feel like a slug. I just read books and wrote in my journal.but I think I have laundry and beds to make today.

  5. Which Bob Munsch books does Amelia like?
p.s. the link doesn’t go where I think you wanted it to

  6. looking forward to pictures of the baby quilt…rest while you can..harder to do the second time!!

  7. Ohhh..I’m so sorry your back hurts. I remember that part of pregnancy quite well. But, look at all you accomplished today! Wonderful.
I’ve been making bread for us for the last few months. I *love* it. I’m enjoying playing around with different recipes and have found 2 that everyone here likes.

One more thing–we love, love, love Robert Munsch here. When I was in college we girls all read The Paperbag Princess to each other all the time. LOL. When I was teaching 3rd graders, they wanted to read Stephanie’s Ponytail EVERYDAY. Those are still my two favorites. 🙂

Blessings and good back vibes coming your way!

  8. Sounds like a more productive day than mine!! I love Project Runway!! I always wonder if I could keep up with the designers . . . which I know is impossible! Your Pesto looks so good. That is smart to freeze some for later. Good idea . . .

  9. so glad you love r. munsch! he once came to read at my elementary school, and i was *much* older than his intended audience, but i was secretly loving it !! heard a re-broadcast recently of an interview with Munsch & Cdn. institution Peter Gzowski & it was so funny, and sad, and wonderful. after that post, i hope you slept for 36 hours!

  10. With Melbourne expecting 36″ today I think you will be resting under a fan all day. When I was pregnant with my second I to would have surges of energy only to collapse the following day.

Oh! there is something so wonderful about growing another human being. But when I read things like your post today, it reminds me how much I love being NOT pregnant! Sleeping on my stomach was the thing I couldnt wait to do when baby no.2 was born. Take care of yourself amoungst all of that nesting!!

  12. Good for you for accomplishing so much today. I’m tired just reading about it. I have a couple little ones as well. I was pregnant about a year ago. I remember around 5 or 6 months I went crazy cleaning and organizing. I figured I should get as much done as I could before it got too hot and I got too tired and too big. I loved being pregnant, but I am also very glad I’m not anymore. *sigh* now if only my little ones would let me sleep…

We could have just bought “The paper bag princess” through Lucky Book Club at school. (yes, it still exists). I thought it looked good but it lost out to a fairy book with a bonus fairy necklace, which is very persuasive when you are five years old. But if I had have known more, I’m sure I could have swayed the arguement. And I love those days when everything goes your way and you get so much done and you have that great sense of achievement at the end of it all. Well done, especially with cutting out those squares.

  14. Thankyou so much for mentioning the book “Living the Good Life.” I have been looking for a book like this for ages! I love the fabrics you have bought for you baby quilt. Will check back to see the outcome.

  15. Um, er, you’re pregnant dammit!!!
    Stop, stop, stop!

You’re allowed to have a little break you know. Nesting instinct means you should be slowing down. Remember to look after you too!

  16. Hey ur pasta looks lovely!
