Dusty
I am working like crazy to get some things ready for next month’s show at Hudson. So I decided to procrastinate and sweep the studio floor. Perhaps this enormous dust bunny (which was gathered from under my work table alone) will give you some idea of how out of control the studio is. At this rate I think the dust bunny might have to make an appearance at the show as some kind of installation – at about 70cm across it is my most impressive creation so far!
My oh My (hands cupped to my cheeks) well well um it is quite a creative dust bunny…laughing nervously…I would not like to see that thing get up and walk…seriously is it alive? hehehe I would set traps juuust in case theres another one near by!
That’s pretty impressive!! At least it’s pretty floor rubbish.. much more preferable to dead bugs & stale food 😉

you need to enter that baby in a contest – mixed media sweepings or the like. perhaps you can put it up for sale on ebay and see what nibbles you get…i *adore* your site and find such crafty inspiration here – thanks!

lol looking around at the plies of stuff building up around me in my small work space, I think the sweepings of your studio to be rather neat. I need to dust too I blame it on my cat and all the furr she sheds. Surely I can’t be the only person out there with a hairy keyboard 😉

Dust Bunny is new to me but it does put a new light on housework. Perhaps if I looked at my other home jobs as Washing Piglets and Dish Daisies it wont feel such a chore

You know it’s time to sweep the dust bunnies up when they start moving of their own accord. I spotted one moving across my floor the other day and thought ‘what the?’. Had a closer look and there was a spider desperately trying to extricate herself from the dust monster that had attached itself for a free ride! I usually don’t like spiders in the house, but I thought this one deserved a second chance! Of course my dust monster wasn’t nearly as cute and colourful as yours!

After 6 weeks of being offline, I’m catching up on your stuff, and find your little jewel of outpouring from 28 Jan. Apologies for commenting here but i couldn’t reply to that date!
I reckon there’s a place for all well executed original art in our homes and lives. I don’t think a nice piece by your 10 year old neice is less valid than a 40 year old Nolan, it just didn’t cost as much. I’m finding it frustrating that there is this great divide between “gallery” and “commercial”. I’ve been working as a graphic designer forever, and have been exploring painting as a way of putting some food on the table since baby #2 came along. It’s hard to find a voice in this, but I think I’m doing pretty well. I have had paintings for children’s spaces in shops, where they take (or propose) a huge commission (60%), and currently have some stuff in Anna Blatman’s gallery in Kooyong Rd. I want to reach a wider audience, but there doesn’t seem to be a logical place to do this, as I’m making “nice pictures” not “great art”. Surely it’s better to spend $100 on a little original canvas than $100 (or more) on a framed print……
Keep going, I’m not quite sure how to crack this, but when I do I’ll let you know, and if you have any breakthroughs I’d be dead keen to read about them.

That just brought back a vivid flashback of sewing in my mum’s craftroom and seeing the scraps of thread and fabric scattered in the hard-to-reach places.
I love your blog and visit it often for inspiration! I was just wondering- I read your post about 52 Projects and decided that I would love to read the book. I too am a project person. The only drawback that I have is that I am slow and often times overwhelmed with all of the projects that I take on-even though I an in love with all of them! How do you do it? I am a painter and graphic designer myself. I used to work for an interior decorator painting murals in nurseries, etc. But, I am finding that I am a perfectionist so it takes me forever!!!! I am curious (really) about how long it takes you to complete one of your paintings. I would really love just to pry inside of your brain because I am so impressed with all of your talent and ability to finish things!! 🙂

Guh! Can’t believe you’re throwing that blue check fabric away – that would be a perfect patchwork square 😉 Much more interesting that my floor sweepings, that tend to consist of leaves (brought in by the cat in lieu of mice), baby toenail clippings, cat fur and screwed up paper (for cats to chase).
