LIfe as we know it
2 years and seven months. My very favourite age so far.
Big-P and I watched “Lost in Translation” again a few weeks ago. I had forgotten a lot of it, really just remembering the feeling of the film. I had forgotten that when Charlotte asked Bob what it was like to have children, he replied: “Your life, as you know it – is gone. Never to return. But they learn how to walk, and they learn how to talk … and you want to be with them. And they turn out to be the most delightful people you will ever meet in your life.” and right now I couldn’t agree more.
(thank you defective yeti where I found the exact quote)
I couldn’t agree with you more! My little one is 1 year old next Tuesday and i love it so much that the next one will arrive in October.
That is beautiful… and so true. I went to lunch with my husband today..(trying to get a life) while our 3 year old was at preschool But we had our nearly one year old in the stroller. She kept throwing away whatever we gave her..and my husband said..”kids..who’d have em..” And we just looked at each other and knew we wouldnt have it any other way.
every age so far has turned out to be my very favourite age. Wayne and I keep wishing we could keep her the age she is forever, and then a few months later we make the same wish all over again… Its priceless, isn’t it?
Oh, ditto, ditto, ditto ……
Love your illustration and I love that movie. It is so true… how our lives change. And while we can feel so much pain (from thinking about the troubled world our kids will inherit to seeing them be ostracized on the playground at times) they bring such a HUGE amount of love and joy into our lives. I know I wouldn’t trade that feeling for ANYTHING!
2 is my favorite, favorite age. Everything is so amazing to them–it’s beautiful to see and catch a bit of, isn’t it?
i still say that, and my eldest is about 41/2. my friend accused me of lying…because there’s no way they could ALL be my favorite age, right? she’s wrong — they’ve all been delightful. even the “tough” stages have had their rewards.
So true, and it only gets better. My kids are in their 20s now. I marvel at their worldview, their ambition, and their creativity. I would be a very different and much-diminished person had they never existed.
Oh Claire you sweet thing. In the US this Sunday is Mother’s Day. I am the mother of three wonderful daughters. I can’t stand mothers day. But, you have just given me the most wonderful way to celebrate the day. These wee ones grow up to big wonderful people. That’s how mothers should celebrate this day, giving voice to the wonder of these relationships! Thank you Claire.
digging the illustration….love the groovy t-shirt over the long sleeve. same fashion sense happening here. it is a small world and even smaller with these little precious ones around.
I can’t wait to have kids. We are waiting a little while longer, but hearing stories like this makes me look forward to it even more!! Good thing a close friend is having a baby so I can live vicariously through her. 🙂
A favorite movie of mine (time to see it again?) and such truth to the quote. Like any relationship, it only gets better and better as both of you grow and get to know each other.
Hello Claire–I sent this earlier but something wierd happened when I hit post so i guess it didn’t come through–ummmm, anyhows, having the exact same age perfect little boy all I can say is:
Who knew it could be so wonderful–my greatest pleasure is watching his personality unfold.
Enjoy! It’s so wonderful!
Hi Claire!
That quote is so great. I have yet to see that movie. My husband raves over it. Our little girl is 2 yrs. and 3 mos. right now and she says and does the most adorable things.
Don’t ask me how I came across your blog – it seems to be a neverending circle of sites linked to one after the other after the other. I just had to say that I absolutely adore your illustrations! Such talent!
And I enjoy reading your entries. Thanks for sharing a little of yourself with the world. 🙂
Have a wonderful day!

I love everything in this movie =)
what a gift, what a blessing.you are fortunate.
My little Ava is 2 years 8 months….and whoa..has her little personality come around. I DO love this age too. She looked at me the other day and said “I don’t have a brother.” I asked her if she wanted a little brother or sister and she thought for a moment and said to me “I want just mommy and Ava.”
You’ve got to love those thoughts of theirs…until they ask you to help get the p**py out while sitting on the potty (just so they can get a sucker). 🙂
That is what being a Mom is all about.
Michelle
ah, i forgot that part too, and i remembered having liked it and hoping it was true.glad it is!
🙂
xo
t
that was my favorite line from that movie. i think i just cried a little!
Oh my gosh…could Bill Murray be more dreamy in that movie? I think I’ll have to go out and buy a copy tomorrow. I have a 3 year old boy and 10 month old girl…I’m driven crazy all day long dealing with little people who are clearly clueless about logic but oh how in love with them I am.
I couldn’t agree more. I have thre children 10,7 and 0.5 ando I would hav more if I could. The best moment in my life was the natural non-epidural birth of my first baby. From then on, my life was no longer mine. With no regrets.
Having raised three girls to adolescence I have to say that four is the most delicious age any child can be, at least in my house.
But all ages are indeed special, even when they’re going through the sticky phases there are moments that melt your heart.
My oldest is about to go off to college now and I’m wondering where all the time went but knowing that I have enjoyed every nanosecond of it.
Fantastic quote and I so agree with what others have written, every age so far has been my favourite with my 21-month-old. I’m about to give birth any day now to no. 2 and am sooo looking forward to those precious early-baby times again too. My little girl constantly amazes me with what a great person she is – how loving, how curious, how intelligent, how funny – and I think, how was I lucky enough to deserve her?
