February's theme

Good morning! It is going to be a little while before I get the gallery up for January’s Month of Softies as we had an unprecedented number of submissions for the month. Again I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually, but thank you for all the amazing cats that have appeared in my inbox. This really has been the best month so far. Beautifully inspired creations abound. I hope to have them all up in the next few days.
In the mean time, February’s theme is “Alice’s Wonderland Revisited” – which is obviously all about Lewis Carroll’s 1865 classic “Alice in Wonderland“. With Easter coming up at the end of next month I wanted to find a theme that somehow included rabbits for those with rabbits on the brain, but I also wanted to make it loose enough for plenty of adventurous experimentation – Alice in Wonderland it absolutely brimming with bizarre characters so find one or some and have a ball.

Here are some Alice references for you:

Alice in Wonderland – The Millennium Fulcrum Edition 3.0 (with original illustrations)

Alice in Wonderland in film, television and theatre.

Alice in Wonderland character list (with pop-ups, sorry)

of – topic, but perhaps an additional source of inspiration, there was a movie made in 1988 by jan svanmajer called “Alice”. very strange and dark but interesting.

i’ve googled it and found these links.

i’m sure you can rent it. our public tv somtimes plays it late at night (which is how i saw it).

i hope our creations are slightly cuter and cuddlier.

    can’t wait to get started.

The children’s book theme is fantastic. Alice was one of my favorite books growing up, along with Wind in the Willows and The Velveteen Rabbit. Oh, how exciting! I haven’t a crafty bone in my body, but I do so enjoy seeing the work of all you talented ladies (and gents) out there.

  26. Over at Crafster, there’s currently a craft swap with an Alice theme. I believe signups are still open, for anyone interested in killing two birds with one craft.

  27. I most certainly will be participating again, since it’s such a wonderfull topic.

  28. Got to tell you this, because I remember that you once had thing for Moomins. I saw at the book sale today the Finnish translation of Alice in Wonderland illustrated by Tove Jansson. Gonna take better look tomorrow when some money finds its way to me.
