Busy Day! Yes! Busy Day!

Holiday Monday: Amelia J has started really getting into a lot of imaginative play – her dolls get tucked into bed and need medicine and cups ‘o drink. She reads to them, dances with them and pushes them around in her trolley. Any two objects that come into her hands have high pitched conversations about what a busy day it is. It’s a pleasure to eavesdrop.
While all this was going on, I started the boot camp cardigan band again (and again) and finally it’s looking ok and almost finished. Hoorah! It will be so good to get this one behind me – it’s absolutely the last time I knit something that begins with me saying “I don’t really like the pattern but…” You spend so much time with these projects you need to be pretty much in love with the pattern (and definitely with the yarn) to start with.

This Thursday is my last screen print class for the semester and I will be printing up my 3 metre length of fabric for final assessment next week. I have about 8 metres of other stuff I am also going to print for my own use including some lime coloured linen. I hope I have the time – it’s too bad I missed last week’s class as it puts me behind and I will have to rush everything. I quite like my design – it’s a kind of messy one colour art nouveau thing – so I am looking forward to printing it and then using it for various bits and pieces. The fabric is all pretty thin 100% cotton homespun stuff so the first thing that immediately leaps to mind is a summer dress for Amelia. I am thinking that I will probably use the linen to make some bags and maybe even the odd cushion… if lime happens to go with the decor of our new place.

Here’s a quick and nasty photo of a quick and nasty test print I did on unbleached calico a couple of weeks ago. We had to do the test in a dark pigment but my final thing will be in soft shades (hopefully… if I can work out the colour mixing!).
