Flu away
I’m sick. I have to flu – the real thing, glands up, aching limbs, hot and cold sweats. Had to cancel three things I have been looking forward to all week; lunch with Special-K, class and a mother’s group evening out of Indian food and drinks. Amelia J cried between 12.30 and 2.30 on and off last night and the rest of the time I lay awake with aching sinuses or had weird dreams about angels and knitting. We actually managed to see out the crying (10 minutes followed by quick comfort followed by 15 minutes etc) pretty well apart from a heated exchange between Big-P and I around 2. “I need to get some sleep! Let’s bring her into bed!” — “No! I need sleep too but if she’s been crying for 20 minutes and then we bring her into bed it’s just going to go on and on and on!”, on which – despite that desperate need for sleep – we agreed. When I did go in to give her a little pat and some soothing words she would yell things angrily at me like: “GOODNIGHT! GOOODNIGHT!” or “TUTTER! TUTTER!” (who is a small mouse character she sees every morning on Bear in the Big Blue House). She finally did fall asleep without having to come into bed with us and has just had a three hour nap this afternoon. It might be another tough one tonight but it’s going to be ok. I have to go and lie on the couch now.
Hi Claire… I am sorry you are sick because I have been feeling very sorry for myself because I have been sick for the last couple of weeks and it must be even worse with a sick little girl too. But anyway a couple of days ago I FINALLY discovered Codral Day and Night tablets which for some reason I had never previously tried or even really thought about… but a friend recommended them because I was whinging so much… and I felt 90% better IMMEDIATELY (nearly). So even though I kow it’s bad to take these drugs too often I think sometimes you have to put your sanity first 🙂 good luck. x
Get well soon, Claire! Bloody bugs.
Get well soon!
poor amelia – do you think it could be her teeth coming in or an ear infection? my 2 year old cried like that for a week and it was her last set of molars. miserable. hope you all feel better soon. get some rest!
Short and sweet…get some NiteQuil if you have it in Australia and get some rest if you can. Mothers never seem to be able to get well when they are sick.
Dear Claire,
I’ll pray for you and your sweet Amelia, and I believe that you’ll get weel soon!
i’ve been sick all week with the same thing, although i have a cat crying at me, not a toddler…. : ( i would say, try green tea, honey, and fresh squeezed lemons. even if it doesn’t cure you it tastes great!
Hope you feel better soon!
Ugh, flu’s no fun. I wish a quick recovery for you!
Hang tough on the cry it out Claire, you & P are doing great! Hubby & I had Night 3 of the same with my 2 year old last night, and lo and behold — a full unbroken 9 hours! Good suggestion on earlier post RE: Teeth and Ears — give her some children’s Advil or Tylenol in case, can’t hurt, might keep her from waking and get her used to sleeping through the night.
Oh no…double whammy! Being sick w/ a fussy child is no fun at all. Repeat. NO. FUN.
Here’s to a quick recovery and hours of uninterrupted sleep!
Hope you get well soon!
Feel better soon Claire!
Hi Claire…sorry you are sick, but does that mean that you are too sick to knit? Or are you just trying to keep your head above water. When my kids were little, I remember that it was so hard to be sick because THEY still needed me to take care of them. Get better soon.
Flues are the worst – goddess bless poor dears.Hope the baby doesnt catch it!
You need a bit of a holiday – away at a spa. Lymphatic massage and all that.
Feel better soon.
Health is the most prescious of all things.
Get well soon… I really admire your strength about the sleeping issues 🙂
