One cheek on

Sleep? Sleep happens between 4 and 5am some nights. Amelia J has her second ever cold and needed many cuddles in the night. Finally, after poking me repeatedly in the eye, she fell asleep on my side of the bed so I spent that precious 4-5am hour clinging on for dear life with one butt cheek hanging off the mattress. Her nose is running, her chest is rumbling and it’s raining outside so it’s a day of Bear in the Big Blue House, sleeps and stories.
I have the ingredients ready to cook Princess Meg’s Birthday Celebration Cookies. That ol’ faithful.

  1. Hopefully the little one will feel much better soon!

  2. Ooh, that blogchangebot works brilliantly, I’m impressed.
On a more serious note, I hope for her and your sake she gets better soon. There’s nothing worse than a sick bub.

    Take care!

  3. thanks Scott – and it’s good to hear that you knew I had updated so soon! Good ol’ blog change bot.

Yeah… I would have been by sooner, but I was out (in 105 degree weather, no less) getting the kitties some dinner.
The blogbot is great… but I wonder what kind of hit your servers are going to take with so many visiting at the same time?

    Hm.

  5. Hehe… Alice loves Bear in the Big Blue House too. She gets so excited when it comes on — and when he starts the Bear Cha-Cha-Cha, she actually SHIVERS in excitement.
She gets bored about 2/3 of the way through, but then wanders back as the end credits roll so she is “in position” and ready for when Bananas in Pyjamas starts.

  6. it seems like I spend most nights clinging for space in the bed. The more I move away, the more ds burrows in like a heat seaking missile until like you, I am half hanging out of the bed:-)

  7. Hi! 😀
I love your website! The way you used the colors in the layout is awesome.

Despite the lack of sleep for you and poor Amelia being uncomfotable, you describe the situation so sweetly. (And with a nice dose of humor too!)I hope to be as good a Mum as your are, someday!! Bear in the Big Blue House rocks, and it sounds like a cozy comforting day indoors..rainy days like that make the world a better place!

  9. Claire, read “Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son’s First Year” by Anne Lamott. She writes a lot about those nights when her baby would simply refuse to sleep. She is very insightful AND funny! I know you’d love her.

  10. OK, I’m a little worried now – seriously. Franklin hasn’t had a real cold yet. Heis nose hasn’t even run.
I used to chalk it up to breastfeeding but that can’t be it – Amelia’s breastfed too.

When he goes to daycare in a couple of months could his immune system be in for a ass-kicking?

Should I be hanging around with other children with runny noses and rumbling chest? Can we come over for a visit Claire?

Am I making too much of this? I get too much information and freak myself out sometimes….

    sigh

get better soon little one… hope you get some rest claire!

  12. Sleeplessness nights and sick babies can really wear you out. You need those cookies to give you strength.

  13. I don’t know what planet I’ve been on… I never saw your cooking section before! Wonderful! Do you have some baby food recipes in there? Sophie just conquered cereals and is having her first taste of carrots tonight! (love to sweet baby Amelia too and hope her cold is better soon!)

    Hiya,
I happened to stumble across your site, and, it’s a cutie…

Just wanted to share that I have an Amelia J (Jane) as well. She is a bit older, (7) and gloriously blonde with amazing green eyes.

    Best to you~
    Kris

  15. Mmm, might have to make some of those cookies – they look great. Will just swap the white chocolate for dark chocolate…yum. Sleep deprived parents need treats.

  16. The last 4 nights have been the same for me. I find a bit of paracetamol (for the baby not me)and some nose sucking does the trick.

  17. Nose sucking?? Does this involve a little sucking thing you get from the pharmacist or some other interesting home-style method?
Please don’t feel left out Ada! I am sure you will get your fair share of coughs and colds during your winter. It seems that all kids get a few when first going into day care. It’s inevitable really. Amelia has been experiencing lots of things lately like travel and therefore extreme temperature changes as well as periods of lack of sleep and weird baby food in a jar. She’s also settling into a new house, a cold winter and is surrounded by other sickly folks so it’s not too surprising that we are getting them now. Hoepfully it will be building up her strength for later.

  18. celebrity chef! oh my goodness, I didn’t realise that was still up 🙂 wow… nostalgia trip!
hope your wee tacker is on the mend soon 🙂

  19. It’s my husband that does the nose sucking. I can’t bring myself to try but it really works.
