  5. I love the new Looby! Cute!!

  6. The palette is nice, though the poor ducky looks a little washed out in comparison to the rest. Or is that just on my screen? Just in my little mind?

  7. E-P, it seems ok on my screen… I will have to investigate. Thanks!

within this site you have recorded your evolution as an illustrator. i love how we got to witness your changing ideas & the retro influences seeping into your creations.it’s lovely.

  14. Lovely. I like the new illustration techniques since you put up the Mary Blair inspired illo.

  15. oh i love the new look. it’s so lovely!!

  16. Looby, your text RULES!!! do you have a font or do you draw out all the text, “contents”, “links” etc yourself?

  17. j.ketchion@student.qut.edu.au says:

    i like it a lot. : )

  18. O claire… you just get better and better. I love your new style. It’s almost like cut paper / collage without the outline. It’s a …what’s the word i’m searching for… it’s not quite as cute, it’s more mature. A little edgier, a little quirkier, but still warm and friendly and whimsical and wonderful. The textures are subtle, but add so much more depth. There’s a new dimension, a tactile quality that makes me want to reach through the screen and touch it. It makes me want to see more, more, MORE! It’s so wonderful to see you stretching and growing and exploring new ways of expression. Someone must hire you soon to illustrate and entire juicy book with many, many pages just so that I can buy it and sit in the lamplight, admiring your work!

  24. i miss the watercolours! But don’t mind me, i am woefully resistant to change. It is still a fabbo design.

  28. Your new design is cool, but your new illo style is stunning! I am so thrilled to watch you grow and stretch. You inspire me to do the same with my writing.
I cannot wait for next EDM illo…altho things are really hard right now and I am not sure Peter and I will make it. The lunatics have taken over the asylum.

    Keep up the great work.

  29. Patty – the text is indeed my handwriting traced in photoshop.

I really like the retro style, but I have a feeling that I’ll be missing the old style. Will you still use it too?I love all of your illustrations!

  31. dragongirl – I am sure I will use the old style from time to time. My blog is my space to play – it’s a good place to try new things and new techniques. I was getting really bored of my old style. I found the heavy black outlines to be limiting so onwards, ever onwards!

  32. Yes indeed – a fantastic new look. If I may take a leaf from Melanie’s entry…it’s cute…it’s mature…IT’S CATURE! There – you have now just started a new school of illustration Looby, congratulations.ps: if you ever went into fashion you could do “Couture Cature”

  33. hi claire! a voice from your not too distant past (noise festival 2001). your autumn colours are lovely and soft and warm, like the inside of a rhubarb cherry crumble. did you know amber just had a baby?

  34. bowb! – hello! I have seen some pics of the lovely little Ella. Wonderful Amber news.
Lliam, Anna, Keri, Mabelle etc – there is a new Mary Blair site up courtesy of her family:
