Attempting to keep out of
a wintery slump I have been trying to keep actively creative
when it is really tempting just to sit at the computer and
hit send-and-receive a whole bunch of times for hours on end.
What a trap that send-and-receive button is! So I have redesigned
loobylu, baked a carrot cake (which collapsed as it came out
of the tin), baked some bran muffins (which are very healthy
tasting and a little more sawdusty than I was hoping), made
some creativity
soup and started work on a tote bag to carry around baby
stuff. I am kind of making it up as I go along so it's got
a few bumps and bruises but overall it's not going too badly.
I am a bit stuck now as I have to do the inside and ideally
I would love it to have separate compartments and pockets
with zips for keys and so on but that is all terribly daunting...
here are some not so great photos to show you the progress
so far:
The bag has denim sides, is
made out of an incredible pink corduroy that I have been wondering
what to do with for ages and some of my favourite floral furnishing
fabric that I have been saving up for a special occasion.
I have included a couple of lined front pockets for bottles,
toys etc.
Here is a detail of the little
bunny patch that I printed out onto photo transfer paper and
ironed on to some coarse linen. It's been knocking around
in my sewing basket for ages so I though I would patch it
on for fun.
This is a detail showing the
inside lining of the pockets. I'm going to make the inside
of the bag out of the same fabric... It's a kind of khaki
colour which matches some of the greens in the floral.
Here are some swatches of
the fabrics used. L-R Dark denim, pink cord, greeny grey polyestery
stuff, coated cotton floral. I think I should have washed
all of the fabric before I started as I know for a fact that
the denim is going to run. It's been staining my fingers as
I sew. What use is a baby bag that you can't wash? Eww.
