Moomin Mail

Yesterday two parcels arrived from Etsy sellers in Finland.
I finally found a copy of Tove Jansson’s Β The Dangerous Journey for a very reasonable price Β – in Swedish, yes – but clearly I am turning into an obsessive collector because it doesn’t seem to bother me.

Fabric from Tillukka (via My Paper Crane) and the book plus the beautiful stamps on the package are from Hapsitukka.

ooo I love the Moomintroll Books, my dad gave me one that he had two of, but I desperately want to buy the series. I know it is going to cost me a fortune …. maybe one day!I also want to buy Arthur Ransome ‘Swallows & Amazons’ books, another favourite from my Dads bookshelf when I was a kid.

I’ve recently discovered Moomins via the Internet. I’ve read a couple books and have a shop that carries all kinds of pretty dishes and odds and ends. I may be on the brink of an obsession myself. I’m a quarter Finnish on my paternal grandfather’s side and so my name is Finn and I’m long been fascinated with those sorts of connections. Moomins are just too good to be true!

I happened upon your blog from where I do not remember, but I enjoy reading it very much. It’s a cheery happy place to visit, and the name Loobylu reminds me of a song my grandfather used to sing to me…anyway, I’ve awarded you with the Beautiful Blog award on my blog http://www.sweetbeebuzzings.blogspot.com. i do hope you’ll stop by and check it out. Happy trails!

Hello hello from Finland! Its very peculiar that I popped in this blog and lookie, the post is all about Moomins!I just bought a couple of Moomin chocolate eggs to my godson and his little brother and thought how the Moomin-goodery (is “goodery” even a word…?) have sort of exploded and theres too much lefthandedly designed Moomin stuff that Tove herself wouldnt give her blessing, Im sure. The fabrics are usually very beautiful though, as all of these that you have been sent. Its kind of funny that since we are so surrounded with all this Moomin craze, you sometimes forget how deep and heart-achingly beautiful the books are. I have actually shed some tears in front of the original illustrations at Design Museum in Helsinki where they placed a show for book illustrations a few years ago, if that isnt too geeky to admit.

Amazon.uk has The Dangerous Journey coming out for a reprinting in English in November. I preordered it. Even with international shipping, its not too pricey.
